Alice York
Alice R. York, 86, an 18-year resident of Severna Park and formerly of Connecticut, died at the Pasadena home of her daughter on April 29.
Mrs. York was born in Biddeford, Maine, on Feb. 16, 1921, and was one of 12 children of the late Orise and Napoleon York. She was very active in a senior center and was chosen in 1982 to represent Connecticut seniors to testify on Capitol Hill before the Select Committee on Aging. She remained active in senior center activities including computer classes, swimming, yoga and serving Meals on Wheels.
Her interests included reading, cooking, traveling, entertaining and sharing her traditions with others.
She was married for 56 years to John J. York, who died in 1999. She was also predeceased by one grandson.
Surviving are two daughters, Sandra Ball of Pasadena and Marie York of Severna Park; two brothers, Norman Paul of Sanford, Maine, and Harvey Paul of North Berwick, Maine; two sisters, Blanche Emery of North Berwick, and Shirley Nadeau of Durham, N.H.; and one granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park. Burial will be private.
