Alfred Attilio "Till" Zucchi, 76, of Severna Park, died of cancer May 18 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie after a brief illness.

Mr. Zucchi was born July 18, 1929, in Taunton, Mass., where he graduated from Taunton High School in 1947. He earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Maryland in 1975.

He served in the Navy from July 25, 1947, to April 1950 as a ensign with the underwater frogman demolition teams. He lived in Maryland since 1954.

Mr. Zucchi retired from the former Westinghouse Electric Corp. in Linthicum after 35 years of service as principle mechanical design engineer, receiving two U.S. patents and 13 patent disclosures.

His interests included gardening and volleyball. He won five gold and six silver medals in the Maryland Senior Olympics competition in Towson from 1992 to 2004. In 2005 he won a bronze medal. He also won gold at the Eastern Shore Senior Games at Salisbury State University in 2001, 2002 and 2003. At the Huntsman World Senior Games in St. George, Utah, in 2004 and 2005, he won both the gold and bronze, plus the honor of the most valuable player the first year.

He was a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Glen Burnie, the American Society of Mechanical Engineering and AARP.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Joyce Zucchi; two daughters, Gini Z. Reckner of Louisville, Ky., and Susan Z. Ridgley of Severna Park; one sister, Christine Zucchi of Buzzards Bay, Mass.; and four grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Charles H. and Clayton D. Zucchi.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, where the funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Fox Cemetery in Berkley, Mass., at a later date.
