Alfred Clay Chambers, 86, of Glen Burnie, MD, passed away on Friday, January 20, 2023, peacefully surrounded by family. He was born on January 17, 1937, in Basset, Virginia, and raised in Rural Hall, North Carolina. He joins his wife, Maria Pia Antoni; his parents, Arville Clay Chambers and Myrtle Johnson Chambers; his brothers, Tony, Bill, and Richard; and sister, Linda, in Heaven. He is survived by his daughter Anna Laymance, son-in-law, Bobby Laymance, Sr., grandson, Bobby Laymance, Jr., granddaughter, Alishia Laymance, and great-granddaughter, Sophia Laymance, of Wartburg, TN; daughter, Angelica Rutherford, son-in-law, Dennis Rutherford, Jr., and grandsons, Antony Rutherford and Andrew Rutherford, of Glen Burnie, MD; and brother, John Chambers, of King, NC.
He is a US Army Vietnam veteran and served 24 years on active duty, followed by 20 years in civil service in Glenhausen, Germany and Ft. Meade, MD. He served three tours in Vietman, and was stationed Italy, Germany, Ft. Carson, CO, Ft. Belvoir, VA, and Ft. Campbell, KY. He was extremely proud of his Army career and serving his Country. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV.org).
Friends may visit on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, from 10am – 12pm, with service at 12pm, at the Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A., 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146.
Interment will be on Monday, May 1, 2023 at 11:00am at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. Friends and family who wish to attend are asked to please meet at the administration building by 10:15am.
