Alexander Zablotny, a 30 year resident of Annapolis, died from natural causes on January 1, 2016. He previously lived in Linthicum, Maryland.
He was born on January 12, 1919 in Carteret, New Jersey. After graduation from Woodbridge High School in 1937 he enlisted in the Navy and served until August 1941. After Pearl Harbor he immediately reenlisted and was assigned as a First Class Electrician Mate on the USS Buchanan (DD474). His ship was extensively involved in the naval battles in and around Guadalcanal.
He worked as a marine service engineer as he was an expert in ship electrical systems and turbine generators. He formed Maryland Marine Services in 1963 and travelled worldwide in his line of work until retirement.
He will always be remembered for his quick wit and practical jokes. He loved life and was the consummate family man. He will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Helen Olga Zablotny; his sons, Mark Zablotny (Suze) of Annapolis and Stephen Zablotny (Cathy) of Arnold; his two daughters Susan Hutchinson (Stan) of Grand Junction, Colorado and Martha Latona (Tom) of Ellicott City; 10 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by 3 sisters and 1 grandchild.
Family and friends may visit on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, January 7th at 11:30 am, with interment to follow in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
