Aaron Johnson

Aaron Stanley "Stan" Johnson, 78, of Severna Park died April 18 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center.

Mr. Johnson was born May 22, 1929, in Great Falls, Mont., to the late Caroline and Aaron Johnson. He graduated from Great Falls High School in 1947, and earned a degree in music education in 1952 from the University of Montana at Missoula.

He began his career at Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation in 1955, and served for years as an industrial relations superintendent. He was transferred in 1964 to the alumina reduction facility at Gramercy, La., where as personnel manager he led early desegregation and equal opportunity employment efforts.

In 1970, he was transferred to Jamaica, West Indies, where he was attached to the bauxite mining and alumina production plant at Nain, and where he was given added responsibility over expatriate housing. He was transferred to Kaiser's airframe extrusion plant at Halethorp in 1973, where he worked until retirement in 1982.

He then became Manager of Corporate Services for Thompson-CGR Medical Corporation in Columbia, then in the late 1980s was the manager of employee relations for Rotorex Corporation in Frederick, and administered GED examinations and other prison-to-work training to inmates of the Maryland correctional system.

He began work in the early 1990s for Commonwealth Land Title Insurance Company as a legal and financial matters courier.

He served in the Army during the Korean War.

He was a member of Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, where he was a member of the church choir.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Marguerite Hyde Johnson.

Survivors include two sons, Steven Johnson of Washington, D.C., and David Washington of Seattle, Wash.; one daughter, Janice Vranas of St. Louis, Mo.; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, 611 Baltimore and Annapolis Blvd. in Severna Park. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium.

Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.
