Lawrence Edward Masterson

Lawrence Edward Masterson, 73, a resident of Severna Park, died on November 4, 2012 at Tate Chesapeake Hospice House in Linthicum.

He was born December 6, 1938 to his parents, Mary and Lawrence Masterson in Cleveland, Ohio and was raised in Parma, Ohio. Lawrence graduated from Cathedral Latin High School in 1956. He received his BA in History/ Business at John Carroll University in Shaker Heights, OH, where he graduated in 1960. He also attended Central Michigan where he majored in Business, receiving his MA, and the University of Virginia, where he completed the Executive Program in Charlottesville, VA.

Lawrence was a Captain in the U.S. Army, serving from 1961-1963. He married Dorothy J. Novak on April 16, 1982 and he previously lived in Odenton.

Lawrence was a Senior Manager of the Department of Defense (NSA). He was a member of the Military Order of World Wars; Greater Severna Park Council; Greater Odenton Recreation Council; Woodbridge Forest Homeowners’ Association; and a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist in Severna Park. He served as Chapter Commander to the Military Order of World Wars, Ft. Meade, MD Chapter; served as President of Greater Odenton Recreation Council; for 20 years, he served as President to the Woodbridge Forest Homeowners’ Association; served as President to the Greater Severna Park Council and coached Little League Football; he also led the beautification effort (median on Ritchie Hwy) and planting wildflowers on the B & A Trail.

He loved his family, playing golf, reading (non-fiction), travel, local beautification projects in the greater Severna Park area (Ritchie Hwy and B&A Trail), and was interested in zoning issues.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy J. Masterson of Severna Park; one daughter, Deborah A. Ratajezak (Ryan) of Glen Burnie; two sons, Brian P. Masterson (Melissa) of Severna Park and Kevin M. Masterson of Glen Burnie; (guardian of) one great granddaughter Arianna E. Camper of Severna Park, two stepsons, John M. Diehl, Jr. (Robin) of Glen Burnie and Jeffrey M. Diehl (Annette) of Pasadena; two sisters, Karen Harmody of Phoenix, AZ and Patricia Rudolph of Cleveland, OH; twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may visit on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 12 noon at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church 689 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146. Following the Mass, interment will be at MD Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401 and to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1850 York Road, Suite D, Timonium, MD 21093.
